Three people have been killed and 17 injured in a bomb attack on a police station in the Pakistani city of Peshawar.

An eyewitness says a man crashed a car loaded with explosives into a wall near the police station. A nearby mosque was also damaged.

Peshawar is located in the border region near Afghanistan and is regularly the target of terrorist attacks. There have been five bombings in the last week alone.

Last month the Pakistani army began an offensive against Taliban fighters in the South Waziristan region. The attacks have only intensified, however, with hundreds of people killed in recent weeks.
