In Albania, a new government is beginning to emerge a week after parliamentary elections. Prime Minister Sali Berisha's Democratic Party is set to start coalition talks with the small Socialist Integration Movement.
Albania's parliamentary poll was the most exciting for years. The official results have not yet been announced, but the ruling Democratic Party is thought to have won just over 50 percent of the seats. One percent of the votes has still to be counted.
The socialist opposition believes the poll was fraudulent and is refusing to concede defeat. Mr Berisha is accused of bringing pressure to bear on the electoral commission to influence the result. Albania is keen to join the European Union but, earlier this week, the European Commission criticised the way the election was conducted.
