Netherlands wants investigation of Iran elections

Published on 17 June 2009 - 3:54pm
More about:

The Netherlands is calling for an independent investigation into how the votes were counted in the Iran elections. In an interview conducted in English with RNW's John Tyler, Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen says the Iranian people deserve fair election results.

Mr Verhagen condemns the violence against protesters and deplores the casualties at recent protests. He is calling for all detainees to be released immediately. The minister has communicated this to the Iranian chargé d'affaires and voiced his concern about the restrictions on the use of internet and other media which preceded the elections in Iran.
