Netherlands Antilles agrees new cabinet

Published on 19 February 2010 - 7:57pm
More about:

The leaders of six political parties in the Netherlands Antilles have reached agreement on forming a new government under incumbent Prime Minister Emily de Jong-Elhage.

The new cabinet is virtually identical to the outgoing government. The only party not returning is the FOL led by Anthony Godett. The FOL failed to be re-elected to parliament.

The new government will be installed on 26 March. But it will only be in power until 10 October 2010, when the Netherlands Antilles will be dismantled. From that date, Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius will become special municipalities of the Netherlands. Curaçao and Sint Maarten will become autonomous within the Netherlands.
