Burmese state television has announced the release of 7,114 prisoners.

It is not known whether there will be any political prisoners among the 7,114. An estimated 2,000 people are in prison for criticising the regime. The most famous political prisoner by far is Nobel Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been under house arrest for nearly 14 out of the past 20 years.
