The international aid organisation Médecins San Frontières (MSF) says civilians are increasingly victims of armed conflicts and people in crisis areas are frequently deliberately cut off from humanitarian aid.
MSF released its annual list of its top 10 humanitarian crises today. According to the organisation, it was clear that ordinary people in Pakistan, Sudan and Sri Lanka were deliberately cut off from humanitarian help and aid workers in Afghanistan, Yemen and Somalia were deliberately targeted and attacked.
Also on the top 10 are "stagnant funding for treating HIV/aids and ongoing neglect of other diseases," as well as the continuing crisis in North and South Sudan and the international community's failure to combat childhood malnutrition. The list is drawn from MSF's operational activities in more than 70 countries across the globe.
MSF, also known as Doctors without Borders, started its top 10 in 1998 after a severe famine in southern Sudan went largely unreported by the world's media.
