More UN sanctions for North Korea

Published on 16 July 2009 - 9:45pm
More about:

The United Nations Security Council has announced more sanctions against North Korea in a bid to limit its nuclear programme.

The sanctions have been directed at five North Korean organisations, among them the General Bureau of Atomic Energy. The hope is that the sanctions will cut off a key source of revenue for the country’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.

In addition, two directors of the bureau have also been targeted, as well as three directors of North Korean trading companies. The individuals in question have had their bank accounts frozen and may no longer travel outside North Korea. Trade with the companies for which they work has also been forbidden.
