More low-income households in Netherlands

Published on 3 December 2009 - 12:55pm
More about:

Statistics Netherlands is reporting that more Dutch households have dropped into the low-income category in 2008. Eight percent - 545,000 households - are below the threshold, which is 920 euros per month for single individuals and 1260 euros for married couples. The percentage is slightly up compared to 2007, but it is only half of what is was in the 1990s.

On average one-third of incomes are spent on rent, plus varying amounts on electricity, heating, and other monthly costs.

The net minimum wage for a full-time job in the Netherlands is 1140 euros per month.
