More Berlin abuse victims come forward

Published on 15 February 2010 - 7:49pm
More about:

It now appears that more pupils were the victims of sexual abuse at a Roman Catholic school in Berlin than had previously been thought.

In January, the Canisius secondary school for children aged 10 to 19 revealed that at least two of its priests had repeatedly abused pupils during the 1970s and 1980s. Since then, more than 100 former pupils have alleged that they were mistreated. It has also emerged that pupils were abused at Jesuit schools in the cities of Hamburg and Hildesheim.

Prosecutors say the alleged misconduct may have happened too long ago for criminal charges to be pressed. However, it is possible that the Jesuit authorities may agree to a financial settlement.
