Activists opposed to the Dutch asylum and immigration policies have recently become more radical, says the Dutch intelligence service, the AIVD.
The activists believe the government's policies are too strict. Consequently they are resorting to direct action in the form of vandalism, arson and the publication of the names and addresses of civil servants on the internet. They are also targeting businesses involved in building asylum centres.
The AIVD thinks the activists are likely to become even more radical in the future and their numbers will grow. Dutch Interior Minister Guusje ter Horst says the direct action they take is illegal and intimidating. She therefore wants local councils and companies to be better prepared for the tactics used by activists. She wants councils to publish information brochures about left-wing extremism and to organise meetings about the problem.
