Military intelligence in the dock

Published on 3 June 2009 - 9:07am
More about:

The Labour Party and the Socialist Party are demanding Defence Minister Eimert van Middelkoop provide clarification on the performance of the military intelligence service MIVD following an interview with a former employee.

In an interview on the current affairs show Nova, a sacked female agent presents an image of an amateurish organisation.

She says she was sent to Bosnia without any training to gather information on alleged war criminals such as Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic. She also said MIVD reports are sometimes simply cut-and-paste jobs, and she never received any support when she was fired. She was reportedly never informed about the reason for her dismissal.

Minister Van Middelkoop has told Nova he could not identify with the picture painted by the former MIVD employee.
