Militant Islamist shot dead in US by FBI agents

Published on 29 October 2009 - 8:13am
More about:

FBI agents in the United States have shot dead the leader of a radical Islamic group.

They were attempting to arrest Luqman Ameen Abdullah in Dearborn near Detroit but he opened fire on the officers and they shot him in return. After the incident, ten of his followers gave themselves up without further resistance.

Mr Abdullah led the Ummah Sunni Muslim group. 'Ummah' means brotherhood. He wanted to set up a strict Islamic state on US soil and was prepared to use violence to implement his plans. He regularly called on his mainly African-American followers to fight a holy war or jihad.
