The National Institute for Public Healh and the Environment (RIVM) is reporting that 912 people in the Netherlands have contracted the AH1N1 flu. The flu symptoms are mild and do not differ from the normal seasonal flu, RIVM says.
Most people who are affected are recuperating in two to seven days. The past week saw the first death as a result of the so-called Mexican flu, as a boy aged 17 who was suffering from several complaints died.
Since April 17 people have been submitted to hospital with the flu; most of them have made a full recovery.
Recent figures show that Dutch travellers do no longer pick up the infection primarily in Mexico and the US, but at popular holiday destinations such as Greece and Spain, which attract many young people.
