Developing countries must have access to a vaccine against Mexican flu said Mexican President Felipe Calderon after a meeting with his Chilean colleague Michelle Bachelet.
Large pharmaceutical companies are working on the mass production of a vaccine but there are currently no plans to give away the medication or sell it cheaply to developing countries, which are afraid they will not be able to combat the virus properly. Mexican flu has claimed approximately 250 lives worldwide.
Ms Bachelet is the first head of state to visit Mexico since the outbreak of flu two months ago. Chile has continually displayed its solidarity with Mexico and criticised the Mexican travel ban imposed by other countries.
