Mexico city returns to normal after flu virus

Published on 21 May 2009 - 9:43pm
More about:

Authorities in Mexican city have lifted the restrictions imposed last month following the outbreak of Mexican flu. Schools, businesses and transport are allowed to function as normal, without extra health precautions.

Most children returned to school last week across the country, while a handful of states with suspected cases waited until this week to re-open.

The flu was first confirmed on 23 April, virtually bringing the city to a standstill, as restaurants, cinemas and sports venues were forced to shut. Church services and football matches were cancelled. The AH1N1 virus has claimed the lives of 75 people in Mexico and infected a further 3,817, according to the health ministry.
