Mexican hijacking ends without bloodshed

Published on 9 September 2009 - 11:03pm
More about:

In Mexico, police have ended the hijacking of an airplane. The AeroMexico plane, carrying more than 100 passengers, was hijacked earlier on Wednesday after it left the resort of Cancún.

The hijackers told the pilot to fly to Mexico city. They demanded a meeting with President Felipe Calderón and threatened to blow up the Boeing 737.

Once the plane arrived in the capital, all the passengers were allowed to leave. Shortly afterwards security troops stormed the aircraft and the hijackers were taken away in handcuffs. It turned out that there was never a bomb on board.
