The European Medicines Agency, EMEA, has recommended the approval of the first two vaccines for Mexican flu. The agency says its expert committee on new drugs had approved H1N1 swine flu vaccines from GlaxoSmithKline and Novartis.
The drugs only need approval from the European Commission, which is expected to happen in the near future. Production and distribution of the vaccines, called Pandemrix and Focetria, is expected to take no longer than three weeks due to the accelerated regulation system for pandemic vaccines.
