Martin Luther King Centre to open in The Hague

Published on 13 January 2010 - 1:12pm
More about:

The first Martin Luther King Centre outside the United States is to open in The Hague this spring.

Martin Luther King gained international fame in the 1950s and 1960s. He was the leader of the civil rights movement in the United States and a champion of peaceful resistance against racial segregation and discrimination in his country. He was assassinated in Memphis in the US in 1968.

The Hague is known as a centre for peace and justice and was therefore thought to be the ideal location to spread Mr King's message of equality and unity in Europe.
