Madagascar's leading politicians have reached agreement on ending 10 months of unrest. The deal was signed in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa in the presence of UN mediator Tiebile Drame.
Under the deal, President Andry Rajoelina, who took power in March in an army-backed coup, will stay on as transitional president flanked by two "co-presidents", one of whom is a close ally of ousted President Marc Ravalomanana. The agreement was reached after Mr Ravalomanana gave up his resistance to allow Mr Rajoelina to remain president. Agreement had previously been reached on forming a national unity government, though it is not yet clear how cabinet posts will be distributed. The unity government will stay on till elections are held at the end of 2010.
