LRA kills more than 300 in DRC villages

Published on 28 March 2010 - 10:03am
More about:

The organisation Human Rights Watch reports that more than 300 people were massacred by the Lord's Resistance Army rebel movement in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo in December.

More than 250 people were reportedly abducted, including many children. The attack on ten villages in the northeast of the DRC was not reported earlier because of the remoteness of the area. This is one of the most brutal attacks in the 23-year history of the LRA. The LRA, which was founded in Uganda in 1987, says it wants to create a theocratic state based on the Biblical Ten Commandments. The LRA is active in Uganda, Sudan, the DRC and the Central African Republic.
