Bob Hamer has been a paedophile, a drug dealer, a Mafia member and a gun-runner - all roles he played over the 26 years he was an undercover agent with the FBI.

To safeguard his identity, Bob always used his real first name on jobs - to prevent the possibility of old associates accidentally blowing his cover on the street. Dealing with criminals such as paedophile gangs forced Bob to use methods to disguise his natural disdain for them.

So he would look for positive elements in their personalities and try to ignore the rest. Thinking on his feet became a useful skill too - like the time he talked his way out of being caught with a recording device while having dinner with a Mafia gang.
