Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman told a news conference today he will immediately resign his post if indicted. Mr Lieberman added that he would resign from the Knesset within months if the attorney-general indict him on a range of charges including fraud, bribery, money laundering and obstruction of justice.
On Sunday, after a nine-year investigation, police advised Attorney-General Manachem Mazuz to indict Mr Lieberman on several charges. Analysts expect the attorney-general to follow the advice.
Mr Lieberman, who heads the ultranationalist Yisrael Beiteinu party, has denied all the charges and claims they are politically motivated. Fraud allegations have dogged Mr Lieberman for years but until now, police failed to produce enough evidence for an indictment.
