Laura Dekker found in Sint Maarten

Published on 20 December 2009 - 11:12pm
More about:

Laura Dekker, the 14-year-old Dutch girl who caught the world's attention with her plans to sail solo around the world at the end of last summer, has been found in Sint Maarten in the Netherlands Antilles. She went missing on Friday.

She was detained after police recognized her from an international alert photograph. Police have refused to say how she is or how arrived on the island but did say that every effort was being made to return the girl to Netherlands and her family as soon as possible.

Earlier, a spokesperson for the family said she left a note for her father. The girl's yacht is still moored in Maurik harbour in Gelderland. Unconfirmed reports claimed she took 3,500 euros out of her bank account.

The Dutch child protection agency made her a ward of court in October to prevent her from attempting the dangerous solo voyage.

She's a spoiled brat. Just before Christmas 2010 daddy dearest started begging 'we need more money'. She's spending a month on each island to rest (vacation), she needs more money to keep flying her repair crew out to help her (it's a sailboat, how many times has she destroyed it already that they've already used her original €13000). Even though they need more money daddy was still able to take a month long vacation with her in Portugal. Grandma wrote a book to earn money and yet they're begging for more; supposedly filmning rights fell through because no one would pay her what she was demanding. People in the world are starving and dying and this spoiled kid is vacationing around the world. How much you wanna bet when she's done she'll write a book about her experience; she can call it 'How I conned the world into paying for my vacation'.

I guess the courts were right when they questioned her maturity to take that solo trip...

Spoiled Brat!

Wow, there is a serious problem with airport security here....how possibly a kid, 14 years old, can fly from Netherlands to Antilles without a parent permission? Don't you need a permission signed by your parent to fly alone at that age?
