The owner of an Italian restaurant in the Dutch city of Leiden is being prosecuted for secretly filming women using the toilet on the premises. The public prosecutor's office in The Hague said the 52-year-old was arrested as long ago as December 2008.
Three years before, the man had hidden a video camera in the light fitting on the toilet ceiling, where it was discovered by a visitor who alerted the police.
The remote-controlled camera was able to film from three angles, but the public prosecutor says no private parts were captured. Police searching the restaurant found three boxes containing 96 video tapes.
According to police, the restaurant owner said he had installed the camera to keep an eye on his staff. He will be charged with assault and secretly videotaping people.
