Kohl, Bush and Gorbachev meet in Berlin

Published on 31 October 2009 - 3:15pm
More about:

It is almost 20 years since the fall of the Berlin Wall and three of the leading figures from that time have come together again in the German capital.

The three were former German chancellor Helmut Kohl, former US president George Bush Sr and the former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Later they held talks with Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Today is not the real anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. That is on 9 November, when more ceremonies will be held. Lech Walesa, the former leader of the Polish trade union Solidarity, has been invited to attend. An open air concert will also be held at the Bradenburg Gate.
