A court in Brazil has ordered Air France to pay more than a million dollars in compensation to the family of a state official who died in last year's Airbus crash.
The passenger jet crashed into the sea on 31 May during a flight from Rio de Janeiro to Paris. All 228 passengers were killed.
The wreckage and black box flight recorders have never been found. This means there is no conclusive evidence as to the cause of the accident, though it is thought a faulty air speed monitor may have been partly to blame. The judge put the crash down to “negligent conduct” by Air France.
Many other families of the victims of the Airbus tragedy have also sued for compensation.
