Former Guerilla fighter José Mujica has been sworn in as Uruguay's new president.
In November, Mr Mujica defeated his rival conservative former president Luis Lacalle. José Mujica joined the left-wing Tupamaros in the 1960s and was involved in bank robberies and abductions. He spent more than 15 years in jail.
The new president has said he will continue the social reforms introduced by his predecessor, the socialist Tabare Vázquez, but added he would also leave room for private investment and keep a close watch on government spending.
The inauguration of José Mujica was attended by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton who began her tour of six Latin American countries in Uruguay.
