The tropical storm Jimena has caused a great deal of damage on the Mexican peninsula Baja California. Roofs have been blown off and electricity pylons downed. A number of villages are cut off from the outside world.
Winds of 155 kilometres per hour raged over the sparsely inhabited peninsula. Thousands of tourists abandoned their holidays on the coast. Around 1100 people were evacuated.
Meanwhile a fifth tropical storm is brewing. However, with wind speeds of 65 kilometres per hour, tropical storm Erica is not expected to cause problems. Although it is expected to bring heavy rainfall with it.
