Published on 7 February 2010 - 11:23am
More about:

In London, jazz musician and clarinet player Sir John Dankworth has died at the age of 82.

He worked with many jazz greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Nat King Cole, Charlie Parker and Jean ‘Toots’ Thielemans.

Sir John wrote the music for a number of films and the popular 1970s TV series The Avengers.

In 1970, he set up music venue The Stables with his wife in Milton Keynes near London.

His death comes exactly as the venue celebrates its 40th anniversary. The manager says the occasion will be marked in honour of the jazz musician.
