Japan's economy shrunk by four percent in the first quarter of this year compared with the previous three months. It is the fourth quarter in a row in which the Japanese economy has declined.
Japan is the world's second largest economy after the United States. The country is extremely dependent on exports which is why it has been hard hit by the global economic crisis. Economists expect that the Japanese economy will see some recovery in the coming months.
