In Ivory Coast, a top football official has been sentenced to six months in prison for his role in March's stadium stampede disaster. Albert Kacou Anzouan, the president of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF), was found guilty of manslaughter. He was also given a fine worth 750 euros.
On 29 March, 20 people died during the World Cup qualifying match between Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. The FIF allowed far too many people into the ground; a stampede ensued and a wall collapsed. On Wednesday, the FIF was fined the equivalent of 33,000 euros.
