The social democrat Ivo Josipovic has won the presidential elections in Croatia.
According to the official results, the 52-year-old lawyer obtained over 60 percent of the votes, while his opponent, independent candidate Milan Bandic, Mayor of Zagreb, took less than 40 percent.
The results are not expected to have great political consequences. The Croatian president has little political power and, like Mr Bandic, Mr Josipociv supports the country's accession to the European Union in 2012.
