The Italian government is planning anti-Mafia measures, including setting up a new body to manage goods and money confiscated from the mob.
The move should make the proceeds of Mafia crime available more quickly. Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's administration says the body could be up and running within a couple of weeks.
Another measure will see special inspectors carrying out checks on 20,000 companies to see if people are being employed illegally.
This is designed to put an end to the widespread exploitation of African workers by the Mafia. Some Africans work in southern Italy for as little as 20 euros a day and are forced to pay some of this back in protection money to the mob.
The government session on the Mafia was held in the southern Italian province of Calabria, one of the mob's strongholds.
