Israeli archaeologists in East Jerusalem have discovered a 3700-year-old wall. The wall is 8 metres high and according to the archaeologist was used to protect water supplies.
The area was once inhabited by the Canaanites and was later conquered by the Israelites. The fact that the wall is still standing is evidence to the archaeologists that the Canaanites were a sophisticated people.
Critics accuse Israel of using these kinds of finds to justify the occupation of Palestinian territory. The latest find is in a Palestinian district, just outside the Old City.
