Israel disciplines two officers

Published on 1 February 2010 - 1:47pm
More about:

In a report submitted to the United Nations, Israel says it has disciplined a general and a colonel for using phosphorous grenades during its offensive in the Gaza Strip a year ago. The report comes in response to the Goldstein commission report accusing Israel and Hamas of war crimes.

Israel has not revealed what action has been taken against the officers. The Israeli army consistently denied that phosphorous grenades were illegally used. White phosphorous is used to lay smoke screens in sparsely-populated areas, but is banned in residential areas.

According to the Israeli report, the two officers fired the grenades into residential areas, injuring a UN staff member and two Palestinian civilians. Human rights organisations say that Israel used phosphorus grenades in residential areas on a much larger scale. The Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip led to the deaths of 1400 Palestinians and 13 Israelis.

I don't appreciate it when my intelligence is being insulted. Am I to believe that these 2 Israeli officers handled out of their own accord? Did not have to inform superiors? Did not have to ask if it was OK to use phosphorus? C'mon, Israel...don't feed the world BS.

Vera, I am not trying to insult your intelligence but when a general gives an order, you can bet he or another general gave the order. Unlike Hitler's generals, the generals determine what orders or given. You also stated "C'mon, Israel...don't feed the world BS."........ When someone feeds you something that is BS, you have have two options: "Turn it down and say no thanks or cover it with barbecue sauce." Be nice, Vera! Jewish people are here to stay. The Europeans did their best to murder all of them but it didn't work. Isn't it amazing how a little nation like Israel has been conquered, destroyed, dispersed to every corner of the earth and to reappear two thousands years later in "their" homeland? Whats the odds? I hope I didn't insult your intelligence with what you call BS. Its a fact!
