In the Iranian capital Tehran, tens of thousands of demonstrations took to the streets on Thursday to commemorate the eight protesters who were killed during the first protest against the presidential election results.
Many of the protesters followed opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi’s request to wear black. Mr Mousavi also took part in the demonstrations.
The Guardian Council, the highest legal body in the country, has now invited the losing candidates in last Friday’s election to discuss their objections to way the polling was conducted. It has also begun to investigate 646 complaints made by the three.
Although incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the election with 63 percent of the votes, the opposition candidates have alleged that his victory was due to voting fraud.
Since Mr Ahmadinejad’s victory, there have been mass protests against him in many cities throughout the country.
