The car of an Iranian opposition leader has been hit by gunfire in the northern town of Qazvin.
Mehdi Karroubi, who was travelling in an armoured car, escaped unharmed. Only the car's windows were damaged. The opposition leaders was in Qazvin to attend a memorial meeting for people who had killed during the recent wave of anti-government demonstrations. According to the website of Mr Karroubi's party, around 500 members of a pro-government militia gathered in front of the building where the opposition leader was and began throwing stones, breaking several windows. Police only dispersed the protesters four hours later. When Mr Karroubi was able to leave the building, unknown assailants opened fire on his car. The opposition website says Mr Karroubi's body guards decided not to return fire so as not to be prosecuted.
