The international community has reacted with concern to Iran’s latest tests of two long-range missiles: the Shahab-3 and the Sejil. Both have a range of up to 2,000 kilometres, which would make them capable of reaching US and Israeli bases in the Persian Gulf.
The United States has talked of provocation. The United Kingdom and France have expressed their anger. Russia and China, who have long held a traditional pro-Iranian stance, appear to be losing enthusiasm for the country.
The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, has called the tests “troubling.” The US Deputy State Secretary, Kurt Campbell, says Beijing’s patience with Iran is wearing thin.
On Sunday, Iran also tested two short-range missiles: the Fateh-110 and the Tondar-69.
