Indonesian earthquake toll may rise to 100

There are fears that the death toll for Wednesday's earthquake in Indonesia has risen to 100. Fifty-seven bodies have been recovered, but dozens more are buried under the rubble of collapsed buildings.

There are scores of people injured, ten are in a critical condition. Thousands of people have been made homeless. In West Java, 20,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed.

The earthquake off the island of Java registered 7 on the Richter scale. The rescue operation was quick to begin as the earth tremors were close to the capital Jakarta.
