Indonesian earthquake kills two people

Published on 9 November 2009 - 12:20pm
More about:

Two people have been killed in an earthquake on the Indonesian island of Sumbawa. Another 80 are injured.

The earthquake registered 6.7 on the Richter scale. The epicentre lay 15 kilometres northwest of the island's capital Raba. A bridge was destroyed and scores of buildings damaged. No tsunami warning has been given.

Almost the whole of Indonesia is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, which is notorious for its earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.

In September more than 1000 people were killed in an earthquake in West Sumatra.
