Indonesian court rejects poll challenge

Published on 12 August 2009 - 1:57pm
More about:

Indonesia's Constitutional Court has rejected the protests lodged by the two losing contestants after the presidential election on 8 July.

Opposition leader Megawati Sukarnoputri and former vice president Yusuf Kalla complained that the count was out by millions of votes. They were demanding the poll be held again.

The official results gave President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono re-election victory with over 60 percent of the vote. Ms Megawati won 26 percent and Mr Kalla, 12 percent.
