India has blocked 25 million mobiles in an attempt to tighten telecom security. The phones which have been blocked do not have a 15-figure International Mobile Equipment Identification (IMEI) number, and cannot be traced.
The government ordered providers to block the phones because they say non-traceable mobiles have been used in attacks by militant groups.
Many of the popular and cheap, non-traceable phones are made in China. There are around 500 million mobile phones in use in the country. Around a third are thought to be non-traceable.
