India and Pakistan to revive peace process

Published on 4 February 2010 - 3:20pm
More about:

Archrivals India and Pakistan are to revive the peace process which stalled after the May 2008 attacks in the Indian city of Mumbai. India holds Pakistani Muslim extremists responsible for the attacks, in which 166 people were killed.

New Delhi demands Islamabad take action against terrorists as a precondition for peace talks. At the end of this month, Internal Security Minister Palaniappan Chidambaram will visit Pakistan to determine what the country has done against radical Muslims so far.

The two countries are under considerable pressure from the United States to resume the peace process. The two rivals have fought several armed conflicts, most of them over the border region of Kashmir.
