The trial of former Bosnian-Serb leader Radovan Karadzic, which was scheduled to begin on 21 October, will now begin at a later date. The United Nations Yugoslavia tribunal in The Hague has agreed to a request from Mr Karadzic to be allowed more time to prepare his case. However, it disallowed his claim that he enjoys immunity from prosecution.

He was arrested in July 2008 in Belgrade after being on the run for more than 11 years. He faces charges of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. These include counts relating to the massacre of thousands of men and boys from the Muslim enclave of Srebrebica in Bosnia-Herzogovina in 1995.
