Residents of the Mexican federal state Baja California Sur are making preparations for the arrival of Hurricane Jimena, which is expected to make landfall on Wednesday.

However, the tropical storm can cause extreme weather as early as Tuesday.

The government has not yet decided on what measures to take, but residents of La Paz, the capital of Baja California Sur, have begun stocking up on food and drinking water and are boarding up their windows.

Hurricane Jimena has already caused heavy rainfall in the federal states of Guerrero, Michoacán, Colima and Jalisco.

Low-lying areas have been flooded and mudslides have occurred in the mountains.
