Hundreds die without furniture fire-retardants

Published on 19 September 2009 - 11:45am
More about:

A Dutch research institute says that treating sofas, chairs and mattresses with a fire retardant would reduce the number of deaths and injuries from household fires by a quarter.

The Netherlands Institute for Safety, Nibra, which studied the role of furniture in home fires, says that strict rules introduced in Great Britain and Ireland 20 years ago have saved an average of some 500 lives a year. In countries where furniture makers do not apply fire retardants, sofas, chairs and mattresses often burn so fast that people cannot leave their homes in time.

Bull this is NOT TRUE. There are no studies that show these chemicals prevent fires and save lives instead they cause cancer and developmental problems and have contaminated our waters and food supplies for hundreds if not thousands of years and will kill millions of people in the process. The destroy the brains of babies and cause other numerous problems. They are even found in breast milk! They will kill more people than they could ever save. This is unacceptable that they are even legal and companies who make them and who use them should be tried for murder!

No research only lobbyists of the companies that make them trying to lie to keep these chemicals legal!

the use of flame retardants in foam has contributed to an enormous problem in the uptake of toxins in fish to the point where here on the west coast of canada we are advised not to eat certain species of fish more than once a week. the damage to the world eco system is much higher than the loss of lives being referred to.
