The trial has commenced in Jakarta of Amir Abdillah, who is accused of involvement with the bomb attacks on two hotels in July 2009. Seven people were killed as a result of the attacks on two luxury hotels in the Indonesian capital, and 50 others were injured.
Amir Abdillah is thought to have acted as the driver and helper of Noordin Top, the Malaysian regarded as having masterminded the double attack. Top was shot dead by Indonesian police some time after the attacks. A total of six people were arrested in connection with the hotel bombings.
Amir Abdillah could be sentenced to death if found guilty of the charges, which include sheltering terrorists and supplying explosives.
