The former president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, has agreed with the country's new leader that he will go to live in the Dominican Republic.
In June 2008, Mr Zelaya was deposed by the Honduran army and fled the country, only to return in September in a bid to reclaim his position. Ever since, he has been living in the Brazilian embassy in the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa. He faced arrest if he left the building. Following the failure of negotiations for a solution to the conflict, national elections were held in November. Porfirio Lobo was elected the new president.
Mr Lobo took office last Wednesday and promised that Mr Zelaya would be permitted to travel safely to the Dominican Republic. However, the charges against Mr Zelaya, including abuse of power, have not been withdrawn.
