Hijacking of Belgian dredger ended

Published on 28 June 2009 - 7:51pm
More about:

The hijacking of a Belgian dredger in Somalian waters has ended. The ship, with a Dutch captain, was hijacked more than two months ago.

All ten crewmembers are in good health say the Belgian authorities. A Belgian radio station has reported that a ransom was paid to the pirates. How the hijacking was ended is not known.

The Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen has thanked the Belgian authorities for their intervention. He is pleased that the captain and crew are well. "This shows how important it is to bring an end to piracy," says Mr Verhagen. The minister recently called for a piracy tribunal.
