The Dutch Health authorities expect a high turn out for Mexican flu vaccinations.
As of the end of the month people who would normally be called up for an ordinary flu jab will be invited to be vaccinated against the influenza A(H1N1) virus. Pregnant women and some medical staff will also be called up for the vaccination campaign.
Usually 75 percent of the over-60s go to their doctor for a winter flu jab. The Dutch Health Inspectorate and the National Association of Family Doctors expect the same percentage to turn up for inoculation against Mexican flu. The vaccines will be given by family doctors.
The first cases of Mexican flu (or swine flu) were reported in the Netherlands at the end of April. Since then four people have died of the disease. Up to now the disease has not spread as quickly as it was expected to.
